Dick was born in Yakima, Wash. on April 4, 1938 to Stephen and Amelia Weigel. He was the oldest of five children, which included sisters Barbara and JoAnn and brothers Stephen and Bill. Dick passed away Feb. 28, 2017.
The family moved to Cheney in 1949 and Dick graduated from Cheney High School in 1956. He married Elaine Gibson on Dec. 26, 1966. They celebrated 50 years of marriage at a gathering of family and friends last summer.
When he was young, Dick worked at his parent's business, Weigel's Bakery in Cheney. He then worked for Nabisco/ADM in Cheney for 40 years. He was active in many organizations. He was a member of the Temple Lodge No. 42 in Cheney, Scottish Rite Order, El-Katif Shrine and the Martha Chapter Order of Eastern Star. He also served as Worthy Grand Patron of Washington in 2011.
In his spare time Dick enjoyed bowling, gardening with Elaine and watching his grandchildren's activities and sporting events. Dick was always there to brighten the lives of his family members and many friends. He enjoyed hearing a good joke, and liked telling them even more.
He will be missed, but his legacy of love and kindness will not be forgotten.
