The Medical Lake boys’ tennis team swept a pair of matches and are in position to defend their 2016 Northeast A League title.
The Cardinals earned a 5-0 win at Newport April 11 and edged Lakeside 3-2 on April 13 also on the road, improving to 3-0 in reported matches.
Noah Ray had an easy time at No. 1 singles with a pair of 6-0 wins. Jared Bergeron scored a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. Trevor Nilles and Folke Schroeder-Frykhammer won 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles. Justin Lohr and Daniel Miller (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2 doubles and Nathan McShane and No. 3 Ethan Brown (6-1, 6-0) capped the win.
“Jared’s win was a good one,” co-head coach Dawn Eliassen said. “His opponent was a bit out of sorts in the first set, but when he got himself together in the second set, he made Jared earn his points.”
Against Lakeside, the Cardinals swept singles play with both Ray (6-0, 6-1) and Bergerson (6-0, 6-3) earning wins. Nilles and Schroeder-Frykhammer scored a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win to clinch it.
