The Cheney/Spokane Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute has scheduled a pair of events for April 28 and April 29.
On April 28, Eastern Washington University geology professor Dr. Linda McCollum will give the lecture: “Megaflood Pathway Down Glacial Lake Columbia from Cheney to Fort Spokane.” The public lecture is free and takes place at the university’s JFK Library auditorium from 7–9 p.m.
On Saturday, April 29, McCollum and her husband Michael, a former EWU geology professor, will lead a field trip to see how the megaflood impacted the local area. Participants will begin in Cheney and continue west to Fort Spokane, then northeast through the Spokane Indian Reservation to Wellpinit.
Stops will be provided to view important features along the great glacial Lake Missoula outburst megaflood pathway while traversing diverse landforms.
For more information, contact field trip registrar Linda Long at (509) 235-4251. Registration and fee required.
