Cheney and Medical Lake scholars honored

Students from Cheney and Medical Lake high schools were among the many graduating seniors honored at the 25th annual Spokane Scholars Banquet, April 17, at the Spokane Convention Center.

Students are listed as follows by name and subject.

Cheney

Andrew Jenkins, science; Sydney Zaph, social studies; Rylie Pease, math; Callan Hosmer, fine arts; Caitlyn Strong, English and Amanda Hosmer, world languages.

Medical Lake

Connor Hart, English; Nick Isherwood, fine arts; Gabriel Mangione, math; Daniel Miller, science; Kristina Michener, social studies and Nathan McShane, world languages.

Cheney High School students finish third in local MESA competition

Cheney High School’s Gabe Bahme, Kassie Brennan and Marisa Mendoza recently took third place at the Spokane (Math, Engineering, Science and Achievement) MESA competition. The students designed, coded and built a prosthetic arm and used it to perform different tasks including object relocation, dexterity, distance and accuracy.

The trio also had to write a scientific paper and create a poster detailing the process of building the prosthetic arm and present it to judges. The teamwas first in both the poster and presentation categories.

MLHS Knowledge Bowl team takes eighth at state

Medical Lake High School Knowledge Bowl team finished eighth in the 1A Division at the Washington State Knowledge Bowl championships on March 17.
