Cheney golf finishes fifth in GNL tourney

The Cheney High boys’ and girls’ golf teams closed the first half of Great Northern League competition at the March 29 tournament at the Links Golf Course.

Both teams finished in fifth place, the boys with 533 points and the girls with 88. Scores in the girls’ tournament were calculated via the modified Stableford Scoring system where the highest total of points wins instead of the lowest.

Tyler Koohns led the Blackhawks with 81 points while Thomas Baycroft shot an 85 and Nate Koohns hit a season best 89. Donovan Heart, in his first tournament appearance, shot a 128 while Nathan Elliott finished with 150.

Individual scores from the girls’ tournament were not available as of press time.

Both teams return to competition at the Palouse Ridge Invite. The girls will play April 12 and the boys will compete the next day.
