The Cheney City Council gave its approval to remodel the Wren Pierson Community Center.

Two Medical Lake businesses, Washington State Employees Credit Union and Bruchi’s Cheese steaks and Subs restaurant were putting their long-awaited relocation plans into motion after having obtained permits through the city to build new buildings on recently purchased commercial lots near Denny’s Harvest Foods.

Cheney High School’s boys’ soccer team had gone the whole season – nine games – without being scored upon with their latest, a 6-0 win against Deer Park.

April 10, 1997

Joel Knutson, a sophomore at Cheney High School, had been selected as a Hellyer Award semi-finalist by Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.

The Medical Lake boys’ tennis team continued their early season winning ways by defeating the Greater Spokane League’s University High School, 5-2.

April 9, 1987

Because of failing business, Cheney Supply Company closed its doors and filed for bankruptcy.

Cheney High School junior Debbie Bateman had been selected as Cheney Junior Miss for 1987.

Students from Medical Lake Elementary School performed “Music Moves Me” a musical for friends and family members.

Former Cheney and EWRA (Eastern Washington Recreation Association) swimmer, Mike Nation, competed in the NCAA Division II National Championships in Long Beach, Calif. and placed fourth in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 50.42 seconds.

April 7, 1977

Eastern Washington State College received between $65,000 to $70,000 for food services and housing during the 1977 Seattle Seahawks summer training camp.

Cheney police arrested an Airway Heights man after he allegedly attempted to strike an officer that had stopped him for traffic violations. Arrested was Michael Soto, 26, who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, negligent driving and resisting arrest.

An estimated 500 elementary school students from west Cheney would use the 18 classrooms and other proposed facilities with the $1.6 million expansion project for Salnave Elementary School.

The Cheney Jaycees named Barney Wehmeyere March’s “Jaycee of the Month”.

The Cheney School Board regretfully accepted the resignation of Roy G. Miller from the board.

From a display ad for Chevrolet: A brand new 1967 Camaro Sport Coupe could be purchased for $2,466.
