Both the Cheney High boys and girls golf teams kicked off Great Northern League action March 23 after competing in the first league tournament of the season.
The boys finished second after they shot a collective 510 points while the girls were fifth with 89 points. Team scores in the girls’ tournament were calculated via the modified Stableford Scoring system where the highest total of points wins instead of the lowest.
Thomas Baycroft tied for third place with Pullman’s Eric Martin after they shot a 91.Tyler Koohns (92) and Nate Koohns (93) recorded a 5-6 finish. Ian Hill shot a 116 and Jake Kallem shot a 118.
On the girls’ side, Hannah Lemelin led her team with 28 points, three strokes ahead of teammate Kelsey Smith (25). Other finishers for Cheney included Kayla Singer (23), Melissa Aris (8) and Julieann Mewhinney (5).
The boys also competed in the Jack Barnes 51st Annual Memorial Wenatchee Invitational, March 25 where they finished 12th out of 22 teams. Baycroft and Tyler Koohns led their team with 82 points each. Hill shot a 103, Logan Klauss finished with a 105 and Carter Rowe had 125.
Both teams competed in the second GNL tournament, March 29, and will have spring break off.
