Blackhawks edge Pullman in league soccer shootout

Cheney High’s boys soccer team earned its first Great Northern League win last Saturday. Trae Babcock provided the winning goal as the Blackhawks out shot Pullman 4-3 for a 1-0 win on the road.

Also scoring in the shootout were Blake Smith, Bas Holland and Noah Schorzman. Cheney out shot the Greyhounds 10-8 during 80 scoreless minutes of regulation and two overtime periods, with goalkeeper Dalton Mauzay making six saves.

Earlier in the week on Thursday, the Blackhawks had a difficult time getting their offense going as well as stopping Central Valley’s. The Greater Spokane League 4A Bears scored in the first minute of the game, opening up a 6-0 halftime lead en route to their 9-0 win over visiting Cheney.

CV out shot the Blackhawks 22-6, with Mauzay making 13 saves.

Cheney’s league schedule moves into higher gear this week with games against Clarkston (Tuesday), and at West Valley (Thursday). The Blackhawks wrap up their non-league portion with a road game Saturday at the GSL’s University.
