Beginning bird watching at Turnbull Wildlife Refuge

Join in a class and outing to learn bird watching basics and then take a walk at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge to see and identify what we can.

Led by a member of Friends of Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge and the Spokane Audubon Society, attendees learn what to look for, how to use binoculars and references. Choose from one Saturday either April 1, May 6 or June 3.

Meet in the refuge classroom at 8:45 a.m. and be prepared to walk for 1.5 hrs on the refuge. Families with children 8-years-old and above welcome.

The class is free but $3 per car entrance to refuge is required. Register at fotnwr.org.

Cheney Public Schools preschool registration open

Registration for preschool students attending Cheney Public Schools in fall 2017 will begin March 24 at local schools.

Preference will be given to 4-year-old children and, if there is space available, 3-year-olds may be served. Children must be 3 years of age by Aug. 31.

Registration will continue through June 16. Parents need to bring a birth certificate or proof of birth, immunization records and proof of residence — such as a utility bill — when registering their child.

Immunization requirements are available on the Washington State Department of Health website.
