When largely different lives - and their respective basketball worlds and cultures - first collided back in 1973 in Cheney, there was no telling what the result might be.
Ron Cox was the star of the show in tiny Coulee City, Wash. where his team had won a coveted State B basketball title in 1973.
Ed Waters was somewhat of an afterthought in the basketball factory known as Crenshaw High School in the heart of Watts in Los Angeles.
But when the two eventually teamed together they were part of a magical time in Eastern Washington University - then Eastern Washington State College - basketball history.
Cox would go on to set the all-time record for scoring at Eastern with his nearly 40-year best of 1,741 points, only being eclipsed last season by the 1,803 of Venky Jois. Cox was also the top rebounder all four years with the Savages. As for Waters, his assist record of 763 floats in rarified air with no one close to challenging it.
