Cheney High School student injured on State Route 904

A 14-year-old male was injured when he was struck by a vehicle on State Route 904 near the Cheney Rodeo grounds last Tuesday evening.

According to a Washington State Patrol memo, at approximately 8:45 p.m. the male was walking in the roadway near Jensen Road when he was struck by a 2005 Saturn Vue driven by 19-year-old Taylor L. Toone of Nine Mile Falls. Toone was westbound on SR 904 at the time.

The 14-year-old was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center. The State Patrol noted the cause of the accident was a pedestrian violation.

Assistant principal/athletic director Gregg Hare confirmed Tuesday, Feb. 28, that the male is a Cheney High School student. Hare said the family had requested information as to his condition not be made public.

More county roads re-open

Spokane County Public Works Department officials have reported more area roads have reopened as flood waters caused by recent rains and snow melt recede.

West of Cheney, Graham Road north of Salnave Road to its dead end had reopened as of Feb. 28. Water over the road forced its closure on Feb. 22.

Most other county roads on the West Plains that were closed due to flooding have reopened.
