Sheriff's Office offers annual Citizens Academy

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is offering its annual Spring Citizens Academy.

This year’s academy will feature an all new class format, including some hands-on training scenarios. The class is free, however class size is limited and residents should register today.

The topic for the academy is “Officer Involved Shooting Incidents.”

Residents who attend will learn about why these incidents occur, how officers and deputies are working to prevent them and the laws governing use of force.

Citizens will also have the opportunity to participate in use of force training scenarios.

The class runs weekly from April 3–24, four days total, from 6–9 p.m. The academy is held at 6011 N. Chase Road in Spokane.

To register, call Deputy Chris Johnston at (509) 477-2592 or email him at [email protected]. Background check will be performed on all applicants.
