Spokane County Sheriff's Office issues scam warning

In a Feb. 6 news release, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office announced it had received reports of scammers calling and sometimes threatening citizens.

The release said the Sheriff’s Office has received calls at its front desk about a “Sgt. Davis,” who has been threatening to arrest people if they do not pay a fee. SCSO has also received reports of a “Deputy Marshal John Clark” making similar calls to residents.

There is no Sgt. Davis or Deputy Marshal John Clark working at the Sheriff’s Office

Law enforcement, the Internal Revenue Service or any other government agency, nor any reputable business or organization will call a citizen and demand they pay a fine using a prepaid credit card, or ask for personal banking information.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to alert their families, neighbors and other citizens about these scams. It also asks businesses to pass this information on to their employees and customers.
