School bond's passage is essential for tomorrow's workforce

I have been a school and department secretary for Cheney Public Schools for 17 years, and I am writing in support of the proposed bond being put to voters Feb. 14, 2017.

Enrollment is increasing. Our district resides in some of the fastest growing areas of Spokane County.

As citizens of these communities, it is important to step up and invest in the education of our children. By providing safe, modern facilities, and a learning atmosphere of innovation and creativity, our students will be better prepared to face the challenges of the workplace.

We are facing a crisis in this country; the skilled trades and workforce are shrinking. Cheney High School must provide the opportunity for hands on experience in skilled trades. It is also important to provide a venue for performing arts.

Our high school and elementary schools are overcrowded. Portable classrooms are not a cost effective solution to our increasing enrollment. We do not have secure entrances at most of our schools in order to maintain the safety of our students.

Please join me by voting yes on Feb. 14. Invest in the education of our future.
