Elda Cluff Rippy, a former resident of Cheney, passed away on Dec. 20, 2016 at the age of 102 in St. George, Utah. Born in Tabasco, Mexico while her father was overseeing a fruit plantation, she lived there until her family moved to California in 1925. In 1939, she married Bishop Rippy and together they had four children. The family moved to Yucaipa, Calif. in 1956.
In 1981, Elda moved to Cheney to be with her daughter and son, Jim, who lived in Spokane. She lived in Cheney 33 years and then moved to St. George, Utah in 2014 the year she turned 100 years-old.
All four of Elda's children, Robert, James, Clara Jean (Traher) and Raymond plus their spouses, were present during her final hours and sat around her bed singing her favorite songs and sharing stories.
Elda is survived by her four children, 20 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in St. George on Jan. 28.
