Prendez exhibit comes to Downtown Student Gallery

Eastern Washington University's Downtown Student Galley will kick off 2017 with Jake Prendez's "Churro Know My Life" exhibit, which runs from Jan. 9 to Feb. 13.

Prendez is an advocate for youth empowerment and the power of positive reinforcement.

As a youth he was placed in special education classes due to undiagnosed dyslexia. He became involved in gang culture but turned his life around after meeting some positive role models.

Prendez received his bachelor's degree in American Ethnic Studies at the University of Washington and his master's degree in Chicana/o Studies from California State University, Northridge.

Prendez's art focuses on themes relating to Chicana/o culture, activism, social justice, as well as pop culture and satire.

His artistic style ranges from indigenous influence, social realism, tattoo/rockabilly esthetics, to colorful urban style art.

Prendez currently runs a college access program in the South Seattle area and hosts workshops and summer art programs.

There will be an artist's reception on Thursday, January 12 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
