Students at Michael Anderson Elementary School organized a clothing and food drive at the school to spread some holiday cheer to the less fortunate in the community.

Sixty children were chosen to take part in the “Fantasy Flight,” bringing the North Pole to life for kids.

Mitch Eggett brought home a Blackhawk title in wrestling, winning the 171-pound bracket with a 9-0 decision over his Mariner High School opponent at the Sundome Mat Classic in Yakima.

Dec. 26, 1996

Connie Dakes, a graduate of Medical Lake High School, was one of four Eastern Washington University students who were selected to receive a Rural American Scholarship.

Cheney Middle School teacher Margie Foland got a pie in a face from her daughter Megan, which was her reward for finishing third in the school’s fund run.

The Medical Lake Cardinals defeated East Valley High School 67-51 in basketball to improve their record to a perfect 6-0.

Dec. 25, 1986

An auction held to benefit Robert Reid Elementary School raised over $2,000. Funds administered through a foundation will be for projects started by university students and professors that benefit the school’s children.

A class detailing folk medicine methods and treatments practiced by 80 percent of the world populations was offered by EWU for winter quarter.

Dec. 30, 1976

At the regular December school board meeting, Bob Jundt, Medical Lake High School head football coach, submitted his resignation requesting that he be relieved of his coaching duties.

An unidentified vehicle slipped on the road while making a turn, collided with a vehicle waiting at a stop sign and then left the scene of the accident without stopping at the intersection of Highway 904 and Cheney-Spokane Road.

Dec. 29, 1966

Williams J. Riggs, superintendent of Cheney schools, took over as president of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce during the chamber’s annual installation meeting. Other officers elected were Robert Utter, vice president; Warren Westerman, secretary; Al Isaksen, treasurer; Bill Beebe, Ron Lemmen, Ron Rehm and Dr. Conrad Cox, directors.

Eastern Washington State College planned a $15 million building program and only $4.2 million was being asked for from the state general fund.

A new business, College Avenue Realty Co., opened with Clarence Davis and Harry Helm as realtors.
