The Lady Blackhawks soccer team had a rollercoaster week in Great Northern League play with a 3-0 loss to East Valley (Oct. 11), a 2-1 win over Pullman (Oct. 13) and a 2-0 defeat to Clarkston at home, Oct. 15.
East Valley opened the scoring on Taryn Baxter's corner kick in the 34th minute. The Knights increased their lead with two goals in the second half.
The Lady Knights outshot Cheney 12-3 with Nicole Rowley making nine saves.
In what was a rainy game in Pullman, Cheney took the lead on Emma Scott's goal, with an assist from Megan Little, at the 26th minute. The Greyhounds tied the game on Sierra Robinson's goal in the 31st minute. Five minutes later, Kailey Estrellado capped the win for the Blackhawks on an unassisted goal.
Cheney outshot Pullman 11-4 with Rowley making three saves.
In Clarkston, the Bantams took an early lead in the second half on Makenzie Packwood's goal in the 42nd minute. Maddie Hoffman added an insurance goal for Clarkston in the 50th minute.
Clarkston outshot Cheney, 6-5 with Rowley making four saves.
Cheney (6-4 GNL, 18 points, 10-4 overall) is half a game behind second-place Clarkston (7-4, 21 points, 8-4) in the league standings. The Lady Blackhawks played fourth-place West Valley (3-6, 9 points, 3-8), Oct. 18. They wrap up the regular season against league-leading East Valley (9-0, 27 points, 10-2) at home on Senior Day, Oct. 22. Before the match, Rowley, Justess Neihart and Carissa Teeters will be honored for their contributions to the team.
The Knights have won their last seven games, six of those being shutouts.
