Emanuel Lutheran holiday bazaar and lunch on Nov. 5

Cheney’s Emmanuel Lutheran Church is holding their annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

There will be crafts and a White Elephant sale, in addition to a large selection of baked goods. Enter the raffle drawing to win a “Holiday Baking Basket,” or a holiday quilt.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., after which all White Elephant items go on sale for half price. The raffle drawing takes place at 2:30 p.m.

This is a Thrivent Team Action Project. Emmanuel Lutheran is located at 639 Elm St.

County libraries closed for training

All Spokane County Library District facilities will be closed on Friday, Oct. 21, for an all-staff training. The library district’s online services remain available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Regular hours resume Saturday, Oct. 22.

Coats and flu vaccine available at Feed Cheney

This month, Feed Cheney will have some extras. In addition to the free hot dinner served family style and the free groceries, there will be free gently used professionally laundered/cleaned coats and free flu vaccines.

It all happens on Monday, Oct. 31 at the Wren Pierson Community Center, 615 Fourth St., starting at 5:30 p.m. No qualifying is required — just show up for all or any part of the evening’s offerings.

‘Tsar of Love and Techno’ is book club selection

“The Tsar of Love and Techno” is the October selection of the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the library.

“The Tsar of Love and Techno” is also the book selected as “Spokane is Reading” for 2016. It is an enthralling series of stories about life in Russia, showing the desperate life of people in a former gulag and that of an enlistee in the army.

Grapes and Hops fundraiser Oct. 29

The Medical Lake High School Booster Club is holding its 10th annual fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 29. The “Grapes & Hops Silent & Live Auction Fundraiser” takes place from 6 – 10 p.m. at St. Anne’s Parish Hall, 708 E. Lake St.

Tickets are $25 per person in advance, $30 at the door day of the event. Must be at least 21 years of age to attend.
