The Friends of the Spokane County District Library is holding a district-wide book sale at all locations on Saturday, Oct 8, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Gently used books, music, movies and more will be available for sale at all 10 libraries across Spokane County. Please note that book sale purchases must be made by cash or check.

In addition to the district-wide book sale on Oct 8, some libraries will hold book sale events on Friday, Oct 7, or Sunday, Oct 9. All book sales are open to the public.

All three West Plains-area libraries — Airway Heights, Cheney and Medical Lake — will be holding their sale on Oct. 8. In addition, the Airway Heights Library will also hold a sale on Friday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Oct. 9, from noon – 5 p.m. In addition, the library’s Saturday sale is also from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The sale is held all three days at Hicks Open Market Building, 12435 W. 13th Ave.

Medical Lake Library will also be holding a sale on Friday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The district’s libraries are supported by Friends of the Library volunteers, who have come together for this first-time-ever district-wide event. The volunteers share the vision of bringing literary, cultural and artistic events and programs to our communities. Through fundraising efforts such as book sales and donations, the Friends of the Library are able to provide additional support for community events and programs, children’s programs and resources.

Community work day planned at Turnbull Refuge

Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, the Spokane Audubon Society and the Friends of Turnbull are hosting a community work part Saturday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon at the refuge. This is part of an ongoing effort to restore native riparian habitat that benefits area wildlife species, with volunteers planting native saplings and building fencing to protect trees.

Everyone is welcome to participate. Refuge officials ask that groups register in advance in order to assist them with planning details.

Participants are encouraged to wear long-sleeved shirts, work pants and sturdy work boots or shoes and to bring gloves and if possible, shovels and pliers.

The refuge will host a potluck lunch, with hamburgers provided by the Friends of Turnbull. Please feel free to bring a favorite dish as well.

Contact Sandy Rancourt at 235-4723, ext. 288, if you are planning to come. Groups are asked to register in advance.

Turnbull is located five miles south of Cheney on Cheney-Plaza Road. Work party participants should meet at the refuge headquarters, located two miles from the entrance to the beginning of the auto loop.
