Does your home have a smoke alarm? According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the answer is likely yes: NFPA research shows that most American homes have at least one. But do you know how old your smoke alarms are? If you’re like most people, you’re probably not so sure.
A recent survey conducted by NFPA revealed that only a small percentage of people know how old their smoke alarms are, or how often they need to be replaced. Spokane County Fire District 3 personnel want to make sure you are part of that percentage.
The district is hosting an open house at Station 31, 10 S. Presley Drive in Cheney on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in support of Fire Prevention Week and this year’s campaign. The event will include information on smoke alarms, fire extinguisher training, extrication and rappelling demonstrations, information on how to reduce your risk to wildland fires, a visit from Sparky, Operation ID sponsored by SCOPE, emergency preparedness and no cost address signs for Fire District 3 residents.
