Former Homecoming queen to crown 2016 winner

Fans and followers, and the rest of the community, of the Cheney High School Blackhawks are invited to this Friday night’s Homecoming football game for a special treat.

Former Cheney High Homecoming queen Katie (McKeehan) Van Blokland will be on hand to crown this year’s queen during halftime of the game between the Blackhawks and East Valley Knights. Van Blokland was Homecoming queen in 1966 and is flying in especially for the occasion.

Miss Cheney Rodeo 2017 sought for 50th anniversary

The Cheney Rodeo will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017 and is looking to select a Miss Cheney Rodeo for this milestone event. For further information email [email protected] or call or text (509) 590-9290 to talk to the royalty coordinator.

Yard sale at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Oct. 1

Cheney’s St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is holding a yard sale in the church parking lot and parish hall on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Items for sale will include household goods, kitchen ware, furniture, clothing, gardening tools and much more.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is located at 625 C St.

John Wayne Trail fundraiser gala in Tekoa Sept. 30.

The second annual John Wayne Trail Fundraiser Gala is taking place Friday, Sept. 30, at Tekoa’s historic mansion, 141 S. Howard St., beginning at 6 p.m. Come support the nation’s longest rail-trail and have a great time doing it.

Festivities include the Irish-Country fusion music of Cary Novotny, casino-style games, door prizes, silent auction, plentiful hors d’oeurves and a cash bar.
