The HEART (Happy Equine Acres Rescue & Therapy) Rescue Horse Drill team traveled with 12 horses south to Sacramento, Calif., last week to ride and compete at Cowboy Dressage World Finals. While there, Relational Riding Academy students Rose Ruotsalainen and Mary Hartmeier rode their horses Spindoll and HEART rescue horse Binga to world finals awards.
Throughout the four-day competition, 11-year-old Ruotsalainen consistently outperformed other junior riders to bring home the Cowboy Dressage World Finals Champion buckle in the junior walk/jog/lope division, while Hartmeier and Norwegian Fjord horse Binga brought home the coveted "Judges Choice Award" for their performances in the Partnership Division.
Ruotsalainen has been riding at RRA for two years with instructor Michelle Binder-Zolezzi in Cheney where Hartmeier is an assistant instructor and HEART volunteer. Both riders performed with the HEART Rescue Horse Drill Team in opening ceremonies at the event which brought riders from all over the world to Rancho Murieta Equestrian Center.
