Respecting Jeremy Lane's and other athletes right to protest

Seahawks’ cornerback Jeremy Lane made headlines this past week during Seattle’s Sept. 1 preseason game against the Oakland Raiders — but it wasn’t anything he had done in the game that caught people’s attention.

Before the first quarter, Lane was sitting down during the playing of the national anthem. During postgame interviews, Lane said he sat down, mostly out of respect for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick has the eyes of the world on him after he was pictured not standing during the “Star Spangle Banner.”
