The Airway Heights City Council breezed through a light agenda at its July 18 meeting.
In action items, council approved a settlement agreement between the city and Jim and Jill Cook. Through the agreement, the city acquired a lift station and property in the Aho subdivision for $24,000.
City Attorney Stanley Schwartz explained that the lift station had been installed by developers. A homeowner’s association acquired the station after the development did not move along. The Cooks later took ownership of the facility from the association.
Schwartz said over the years the owners did not maintain the station and residents complained to the city. Staff has cleaned up the lift station and the area around it.
Schwartz sent letters to the Cooks saying the city would make an offer to purchase the facility.
“This is a considerable asset to the city,” Schwartz said. “It would be instrumental in maintaining the city’s sewer system.”
Council also approved a resolution for the master plan for Sekani Park.
The plan is for the two-acre parcel behind Walmart, which the city purchased in January 2015.
Parks and Recreation Director J.C. Kennedy said SPVV developed the plan from input they received from residents during a series of public workshops in the spring.
According to information from council, the plans’ concept includes a main entry, two play structures — one for ages 2-5 and the other for ages 5-12, a trike path, swings and a splash pad.
The projected cost of the master plan’s features in all three phases is $564,932. Kennedy said the city does not have the funding to construct the features at this time
