The Cheney 17U Summerhawks went 2-4 and finished fifth out of six teams in the Desert Heat Classic tournament in Ephrata, June 23-26.
The Summerhawks began the tournament with a 12-4 loss to the Columbia Basin Rock Hounds. With the score tied 4-4, the Rock Hounds scored eight runs in the fifth inning to force the eight-run mercy rule, which head coach Austin Sharp said was in effect.
Jacob Lauber took the loss on the mound after he relieved starter Devin Cook in the fourth.
Andrew Witt was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Dylan Arthur was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
