Deadline changes for the Fourth of July
The Cheney Free Press will be closed Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
Deadlines for submissions for the July 7 edition have been changed. The deadline for legal notices is Friday, July 1, by 5 p.m. The deadline for letters to the editor and public service announcements for the West Plains briefs is also Friday at noon.
The Free Press will be open again for business on Tuesday, July 5 at 8 a.m.
Cheney Rodeo Round-up needs vendors
There is still plenty of time for vendors and area organizations to sign up for the Cheney Rodeo Round-up taking place Saturday, July 9, in downtown Cheney. The Round-up runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., and is the perfect time to sell your wares, inform people about your organization while also having fun during Rodeo weekend.
Deadline for signing up is Wednesday, July 6 at 5 p.m. For more information or to get an application, call Debbie Anderson at 235-4242.
Library district facilities closed for Fourth
All Spokane County Library District facilities will be closed on Monday, July 4, to observe Independence Day. Regular hours resume Tuesday, July 5.
The library district’s online services remain available 24/7.
Cheney Free Press adopts summer hours
The Cheney Free Press is changing its hours of operations during the summer. The newspaper office will be open 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Fridays only, and regular hours 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Thursday.

Time to play in the Blackhawk Scramble
Sunday, July 17, is the perfect day for a fun round of golf while supporting Cheney High School athletics and the Cheney Kiwanis Club at the Blackhawk Scramble. The tournament kicks off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., and culminates after 18 holes of golf with food and prizes, all for just $75 per person.
Contests include closest to the pin, longest drive and a 50/50 putting competition.
