McMorris Rodgers should have said 'no' to Trump

Cathy McMorris Rodgers recently announced on her Facebook site that she was “not exactly” enthusiastic casting her ballot for Donald Trump in the recent primary given her concerns about Trump’s “comments on women, people with disabilities and those with different backgrounds.”

She called his “comments wrong in a presidential campaign; in our workplaces; in our homes and anywhere else.”

Given all this, perhaps a more effective approach than voting for Trump would have been to follow the example of Nancy Reagan by “Just Say No” to Trump’s years of ingrained bad behavior and not vote for him.

It is disappointing that to retain her position as the highest-ranking woman in the Republican congressional leadership, McMorris Rodgers cast a self-serving rather than a beneficial primary vote for her district. Among other impactful things if Trump is elected, we could see the deportation of much needed agricultural labor that has been in short supply in our area the past few years.

Now her constituents have an opportunity to say “No” to McMorris Rodgers, her lack of attention to our district and her lackluster list of accomplishments. We have other candidates on either side of the political spectrum to choose from. It’s time for a change.
