Sophomore Keyhon Ross set a pair of school records and junior Lexi Rolan swept her two races in a Northeast A League track meet staged at Medical Lake May 4 and featuring Newport and Freeman.
Medical Lake’s boys won 94-45.5 against Newport and 83-62 over Freeman. The Cardinal girls split, defeating Newport 86-46 but losing to Freeman 96-53.
Ross broke both school records for the 100 and 200 meters. His 10.46-second time beat the former mark set in 2015 by Tellas Johnson. The 200 record, a 21.91, broke a long-standing mark set by Mike VanMatre way back in 1972.
Rolan, who had been nursing an injury and was limited in her competition, ran an 11.96 to easily win the 100. Her 25.08 was over three seconds better than the runner-up.
“We only had her in the 100 Wednesday and she came up to me and wanted to run the 200, too,” Blankenship said.
Nani Paikuli scored a win in the discus with a throw of 81-feet, 1-inch. Nate Davis won the shot put with a 42-1 throw.
The Cardinals hosted Riverside in a dual-meet this past Wednesday, May 11 and then prepare themselves for district competition at Newport, May 20–21. Blankenship said he recently withdrew the team from the Riverside Twilight Invitational on Friday, May 13.
