The Cheney High girls’ tennis team hit a rough spot during Great Northern League play after a 6-1 loss to Pullman, April 19, then rebounded to defeat West Valley, 6-1, April 21.
Bridget Calvert, No. 1 singles, went 2-0 after wins over Pullman’s Alexa Yadoma (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) and West Valley’s Ava Raney (6-4, 6-1).
Alannah Lewis, No. 2, picked up a win at West Valley (6-2, 6-2) as did No. 3 Emily Howard (6-1, 6-0) and No. 4 Caitlyn Strong (6-3, 7-5).
No. 2 doubles Danica Gary and Amparo Contreras finished the week with a win against West Valley (6-4, 6-4) as did No. 3 Taylor Gould and Zeb Potter (6-0, 6-1).
Cheney (3-1 GNL, 8-2 overall) is second in the league standings, one match behind first-place Pullman (3-0, 8-2). They travel to East Valley (0-3, 3-4) tonight (April 28), then compete in the Inland Empire tennis tournament, April 29-30.
The Blackhawks will have their final home match of the season against Clarkston (1-2, 1-2), May 3.
