Marketplace Cheney was having sign work done on day of Nov. 17 windstorm
The casualties from the Nov. 17 windstorm range far and wide with damage still evident in many places across the region.
One by one the homes, roofs and fences are being repaired and the downed trees removed from the most devastating storm to ever hit the area.
Locally, the Marketplace Cheney got to be checked off the list by Quick Signs of Spokane when the company spent all day April 5 setting the businesses' sign in place.
The sign was to have been installed way back in November. In fact the crews were onsite Nov. 17 getting ready to do the install when the winds first began to blow a bit and before long they were howling.
It was a day few in the Inland Northwest will forget. Neither will Marketplace Cheney owner Lori Musgrave and the sign guys. One of the installers nearly fell out of the bucket and the sign also came close to crashing to the pavement.
"That's it, we're done," the workers told Musgrave.
That put the job back onto a waiting list and it just returned to the rotation last week, Musgrave explained.
"I was just waiting my turn," Musgrave said. The signs have been stored at the store since last November.
The business, which opened last October, recently passed its half-year mark and Musgrave said she is very happy with how her venture has been received in Cheney.
Part of that is patrons knowing that the food served is all locally sourced.
"We can tell you what farm it's coming from," Musgrave said. They like the opportunity to support the local farmers and artisans.
Currently operating six days a week and closed Mondays, Musgrave said they likely will add that seventh day soon, especially with the weather warming and a new patio planned for the First Street side of the business.
The business has been approved for a 20-foot-by-40-foot patio, Musgrave said. It's a two-year project with planters and fencing with a pergola (canopy) being added later.
One of the most notable pieces of news is that the Cheney Farmer's Market will move from the library parking lot to Musgrave's business parking lot, she said.
The market will debut May 3, just in time for the plant and flower vendors to sell for Mothers Day on May 8.
