Medical Lake boys' track third at Deer Park Invite

Sprinters lead the way for Cards

Medical Lake’s success in track the past few years has centered largely on the strength of their distance athletes.

There’s a shift now to the sprinters who have led the Cardinals to another impressive finish at the Deer Park Invitational last Friday, April 1.

Medical Lake’s boys finished third with 60 points, trailing fellow Northeast A League teams Deer Park (90 points) and Colville (60.12) in the 25-team field. The ML girls were 10th in their 24-team grouping.

“Our sprinters did really well again,” co-head coach Gene Blankenship said. They were led by the one-two finish from Keyhon Ross, 11.23 seconds and Dawson Lack at 11.27 in the 100-meters. Lack also anchored the winning 4x100 team that included Ross, BJ Smith and Jared Wright and clocked a 44.30.

Junior sprinter Lexi Rolan was unable to compete due to injury. But Jaxyn Farmen (13.68) and Lexa Garcia (13.72) were fourth and fifth in the 100.

Farmen also finished second in the triple Jump (34 feet, 4 inches) setting a new school record. She was also fifth in the long jump. Farmen also ran on the third place 4 x 100 team.

“I was pleased with our young distance team: Tanner Henry (10th grader) was seventh in the 3,200 meters with a personal best of 10 minutes, 30.71 seconds,” Blankenship said.

Nate Davis was fourth in the shot with a toss of 42-feet, 3-inches.
