The Medical Lake Police Department was investigating a bomb threat, delivered in the form of graffiti on the wall of a girls' bathroom, at Hallett Elementary School.

There was an ongoing discussion taking place in Spokane County over jail overcrowding and its effect on communities - including Cheney - who were seeing inmates being turned away because of a lack of space.

The Cheney girls' track team won 16 of 18 events and scored a 123.5 – 25.5 win over Clarkston. Crystal Simmons, Mikaela Young and Amanda Swenson finished 1-2-3 in the 100-meter dash, just one of a number of dominating performances.

April 4, 1996

The city of Cheney was considering raising the franchise fee for cable television which would force Cheney-Medical Lake Cable to increase local rates by 50 cents per month.

Mark Schoesler and Larry Sheahan, both from the 6th District and members of the House of Representatives in the Washington Legislature spoke recently to the Cheney Chamber of Commerce about rising crime rates.

Chad Randall's wins in the 100, 200 and 400 meters paced Cheney to a 90 – 51 nonleague track victory over visiting Rogers of Spokane at Woodward Stadium.

April 10, 1986

Cheney Fire Department officials and Eastern Washington University reached a tentative agreement to provide fire protection to the school. The exact amount EWU would pay the city was being determined based on a survey of property in the city and the university and prorated based on the department's $375,000 budget for 1986.

Some of Cheney's youth, the 145 strong Pathfinder's Group, spent the previous Saturday cleaning the Fairview Cemetery.

Medical Lake moved into first place in the Northeast A League following a 21-6 baseball win over Colfax and Kettle Falls 17-7 and 8-2. Tim Adams had a pair of hits, including a triple, in the Kettle Falls doubleheader.

April 8, 1976

Independence Hall and selected phrases from the Declaration of Independence were the main features of the 40-foot Cheney community float, according to an artist's rendering released to the public.

The Eastern Washington State College Fieldhouse was red-tagged and deemed unfit for human occupancy, but it had not yet been condemned according to Cheney Fire Chief Tony Singleton.

Cheney's Mike Gill had the lone first place finish, a 187-foot, 6-inch throw in the javelin to pace the Blackhawks to a fourth place finish in the Ephrata Invitational track meet.

April 7, 1966

The Cheney Chamber of Commerce Recreation Committee was preparing to stage its third annual fish fry with Cheney firemen as special guests.

The Cheney Lions Club and Lady Lions observed the two groups 19th anniversary by staging a dinner at the Ball Lounge at EWSC.

Cheney opened its baseball season with a 7-6 loss to Mead with Phil Conrath pitching and Timm Shepard catching.
