After helping the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team advance to the semifinals of the 2016 Big Sky Conference Women's Basketball Championship this past week, as sisters sophomore Delaney Hodgins and senior Hayley Hodgins were tabbed Big Sky All-Tournament selections, the league office announced March 12.
EWU defeated Sacramento State, 100-97, in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday, Mar. 9, but fell to eventual Big Sky Tournament champion Idaho, 86-71, in a semifinal contest March 11. Eastern finished 20-12 after being passed over by the Women's NIT and the Women's Basketball Invitational.
Delaney Hodgins averaged 24 points per game over Eastern's two outings, shooting 57.7 percent from the floor and 94.1 percent (16-17) from the free throw line.
She delivered a career-high 26 points against the Hornets, going 10-of-17 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Against Idaho, Delaney had 22 points and set new career highs for free throws made and attempted, going 11-of-12.
Hayley Hodgins averaged 23 points per game during the Eagles' stay in Reno. She tallied a game-high 27 points against Sacramento State, knocking down five three-pointers while draining all six of her free throw attempts. Hayley had 19 points versus Idaho.
Idaho's Mikayla Ferenz was named the Big Sky Tournament MVP while her teammate Ali Forde also earned all-tournament honors. Idaho State's Brooke Blair and Anna Lee Policicchio rounded out the 2016 All-Tournament Team.
