The Cheney City Council approved nearly $600,000 in funding for design work on the planned expansion of the wastewater treatment plant.

Longtime Cheney High School music teacher Harlan Henderson was recently honored by the Washington Music Educators Association as the Northeast Region’s Outstanding educator.

Devin Merrill of Cheney had a five-point game leading the Blackhawks to an 8-0 soccer victory over Medical Lake at Holliday Field.

Anderberg Chevrolet, located in Cheney since 1980, announced the business would be sold to Helena, Mont.-based Power Chevrolet.

Alpha Xi Delta, located at 324 Second St. was the first sorority to be approved by the Cheney Planning Commission.

Both the Cheney boys and girls were dispatched in two games at the State 2A basketball tournament in the Tacoma Dome. The boys fell to Lynden 49-39 in their opener and were eliminated 44-32 by Selah. The Cheney girls opened with a 55-38 loss to Arlington and 55-50 to Chief Sealth.

March 20, 1986

Nearly 2,000 voters flocked to the polls passing the Cheney School District’s two-year $1.6 million maintenance and operations levy by a margin of 74 percent.

Making its third trip to the state AA tournament in six years under coach Denny Humphrey, Cheney bowed out of the event following successive losses to Olympia 58-40 and 61-55 to Nathan Hale.

March 16, 1976

The Cheney City Council was informed by Councilman Jack Crabb that a search committee in charge of finding a new director of parks had chosen Robert Hudson from Colorado.

Medical Lake’s special school levy failed by just 1 percent or 10 votes according to Superintendent Byron Leeper.

Medical Lake earned a berth in the state 2A basketball tournament with wins over East and West Valley.

March 9, 1966

Cheney voters approved two special levies, one for $79,000 to furnish and equip the new high school and another for $23,000 to purchase additional school sites.

The Cheney School Board was considering whether to construct a pump house at Four Lakes Elementary School, purchasing a lawnmower and teacher vacancies at their most recent meeting.

Eastern Washington State College senior wrestler Dave Harris earned the right to compete at the NAIA nationals in Minnesota.
