The Cheney High gymnastics team will have a couple of athletes competing in the 1A/2A/3A state championships, Feb. 19-20 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.
Alexis Miller and Olivia Hovater qualified for state competition at the 3A Regional Championships Feb. 13 at Mead.
Miller qualified for the all-around competition after she took 10th with a score of 31.350. Her teammates Makayla Miller (31.250), Katie Clemens (29.700) and Hovater (29.450) compiled an 11-12-13 finish while Jory Pryor took 15th (27.800). Alexis Miller also finished 10th in the bar (7.650).
Hovater qualified for the vault event at state after she took ninth (8.400).
As a team Cheney finished fourth out of seven teams with 149.55 points. Kamiakin, out of Kennewick, won regionals with 176.250 points.
In an email, head coach Jaelyn Gardner noted that many of the athletes had their best scores of the season.
“We also had our highest team score of the year,” she added.
