Planning commissioners discussed Bi-Mart's plans to move a Type 5 stream east of its planned new location along First Street in Cheney.
The Cheney Police Department was hoping to become the regional training force for many area law enforcement agencies, including Airway Heights, Medical Lake, Liberty Lake and others.
Both the Cheney boy's and girl's basketball teams scored wins over Rogers High of Spokane in the annual rivalry game, taking home the Diamond Dipper trophy. Katie Camp scored 19 points in the girl's 58-48 win. Cheney won 55-47 on the boy's side, with Jesse Gibb leading his team with 12 points.

County users of the Cheney city swimming pool will not have to pay additional admission charges after Spokane County decided to pay $10,000 to its operation.

The Medical Lake School District was asking voters to pass the first school levy in 25 years. The levy was asking for $150,000 that would cost a homeowner $5.22 per $1,000 of assessed value. The last request for levy funds was 1951.
A snowstorm dumped several inches of the white stuff in the Cheney area causing many headaches for drivers.
Led by 20 points from Bret Blankenship, the Cheney Blackhawks staged an upset 68-57 Frontier League boy's basketball victory at East Valley.

George Fisher was seen in a photo turning the first shovel of dirt at the site of the new $1.215 million Cheney High School.
The city of Cheney was adding the new combined position of fire marshal and building inspector.
Cheney Free Press publisher Guyel Frost announced the paper would move to a Thursday publishing date from its present Friday. The Chamber of Commerce and area merchants suggested the change.
