That big, hulking black shape Cheney residents saw leaping down the highway and out of town Saturday night was the monkey that had been on the backs of the high school boys basketball team all regular season long.
The Blackhawks scrapped their way to a four-point halftime lead on Senior Night last Saturday at home against West Valley, and found a way to make that stand for a 48-43 Great Northern League win, earning their first league win of the season and snapping a 10-game losing streak in the process.
