Medical Lake wrestling wraps up season with win over Riverside

The ever-improving fortunes of Medical Lake wrestling took another step forward by claiming their first dual-meet victory of the season Jan. 28 with a Northeast A League win at Riverside 39-25.

The Cardinals got wins via pins at both 106 pounds where freshman Weston Thomas continued his impressive season scoring a 29-second pin over his Rams’ opponent.

Seniors Tristen Keith also collected a speedy 52-second victory at 145 pounds while Ian Oldenburg picked up the final competitive victory 10-5 at 160 pounds.

Medical Lake’s other four wins all came from forfeits with Nick Reed (113 pounds), Justin Warnick (120), Keoni Paikuli (170) and Isaiah Schlosser (195) all scoring points.

Medical Lake will host the two-day district tournament with Friday, Feb. 5 devoted to sub-districts where competitors without notable victories this season try to qualify for Saturday finals.

Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Medical Lake will bring two wrestlers at each weight, except 220 and 285 pounds, head coach Josh Edmondson reported.
