Cheney voters narrowly passed a $998,000 school district maintenance and operations levy Feb. 3, gaining the necessary 60 percent majority by just 87 votes in a 1,128 – 607 decision.
Funeral services were planned for longtime community resident and former superintendent of Cheney Schools, Albert Hinckley who passed away at age 83. Hinckley was credited with expanding the district by taking over operation of a variety of several outlying schools.
Emerson Gordon's last-second lay-in basket helped his Eastern Washington State College Savages earn a 74-72 triple-overtime Evergreen Conference men's basketball victory over Central Washington at the Pavilion.
