Eastern Washington University requested that property in an area on North Tenth Street from Elm to Cedar streets be vacated to accommodate the construction of the planned recreation center.
The football field at Cheney High School was officially named Tom Oswald Field in honor of the Washington State Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame former coach of the Blackhawks.
Medical Lake's Richelle Daily led her team to wins in two of three games over the week scoring 26 points in a 56-28 victory over Colville and 17 in a 41-34 win against Newport.

Construction on a utility tunnel at EWU would continue to cause more traffic delays as a lane of Washington Street will remain closed for at least another month.
The public was being encouraged to participate in planning of a new trail that uses an abandoned railroad right of way and will run through Cheney. The city of Cheney received approval and $3.5 million to design 3.5 miles of trail from the city to Fish Lake.
Lisa Anderson scored 16 points to lead Cheney to a 47-36 Frontier League girl's basketball win over Colville, improving the Lady Hawks' record to 3-0 in league play.

The Cheney Planning Commission wanted more input on proposed zoning changes regarding the number of unrelated people allowed to live in a single residence.
Jane Yarwood and Dale Lamphere were chosen as finalists for the Cheney School Board position left vacant by the recent resignation of Roberta McNeal.
Cheney got a 25-point night from Dan Bannerman as the Blackhawks defeated Deer Park 60-46 and then a 17-point, 13-rebound effort from Dan Jarms in a 53-51 win over Clarkston in Frontier League boy's basketball play.

The Cheney School District's upcoming maintenance and operations levy was cut $82,000 to bring the measure under $1 million. In 1975 the M&O levy provided approximately 29 percent of district funding to cover state shortfalls.
A proposed golf course for Cheney was to receive a hearing at a parks board meeting director of recreation Thorne Tibbits said.
Lanny Davidson, named the outstanding small college wrestler in the nation in 1975 as a sophomore, was listed as one of four finalists for the Inland Empire Sports Writers and Broadcasters Athlete of the Year.

Cheney pharmacist Warren Westerman was asking if any local residents had discovered the new public television station broadcasting out of Moscow, Idaho and the University of Idaho? "The programs are a pleasant change from 'The Munsters ' and 'Batman' he said.
The Cheney Chamber of Commerce installed new officers at a recent meeting at the Beehive Restaurant, including president Stan Pierce, vice president Irving Brooks, secretary Al Isaakson and Warren Westerman as treasurer.
