Avista announces $505,000 in seasonal donations

Avista Corporation and the Avista Foundation announced in a Dec. 21 news release that they are giving a total of $505,000 to non-profit organizations in the company’s service territories in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Alaska this holiday season.

The funds will help support programs, including food banks, energy assistance, shelter and clothing and holiday meals. The total value of Avista’s grants and donations for 2015 is more than $2.7 million from both corporate and foundation sources.

Funds for Avista Corp. donations come from company profits. They are not included as a cost to customers in developing retail rates. Avista makes a portion of its community investments through the Avista Foundation.

Seasonal donations to organizations are included $225,000 for Project Share. Project Share provides one-time emergency energy assistance to families in need, without regard to their heating source.

Another $200,000 goes to CARES (Customer Assistance Referral and Evaluation Service) energy assistance program to help with grants for energy assistance to qualifying Washington Avista customers who are in need this winter and who may have exhausted all other available energy assistance resources.

Regional food banks are slated to receive $40,000, and additional seasonal giving of $40,000 will go towards helping agencies meet the needs of vulnerable and low-income residents is an especially difficult task at this time of year.
