Cheney Community Church

Cheney Community Church has scheduled a Christmas Eve candlelight service for 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 24. The program will include lighting of the Advent wreath, traditional Christmas carols interspersed with Scripture readings, a vocal solo, and a devotional.

The Luke 2 Christmas story will be read to the children who will then sing “Away in a Manger.”

As we celebrate Christ’s first advent, we anticipate his second coming as well. Merry Christmas to everyone. May our Lord’s blessings be yours in the coming year.

The angel said to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord,” Luke 2:10-11.

For your contemplation: “God came to us because he wanted to join us on the road, to listen to our story, and to help us realize that we are not walking in circles but moving towards the house of peace and joy. This is the great mystery of Christmas that continues to give us comfort and consolation: we are not alone on our journey. The God of love who gave us life sent us his only Son to be with us at all times and in all places, so that we never have to feel lost in our struggles but always can trust that he walks with us…Christmas is the renewed invitation not to be afraid and let him — whose love is greater than our own hearts and minds can comprehend — be our companion,” Henri Nouwen.
