Crunch Time
College football’s bowl season is almost upon us and I couldn’t resist the urge to comment.
This year we have new wrinkles to the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision’s annual feeding frenzy at the money trough. With the addition of three new bowls this year, it was necessary to come up with 84 teams to fill those slots.
There are only 128 teams at the FBS level.
The numbers game means there were good odds several bowls would have to invite teams possessing a sub-.500 record, and indeed there are three such teams headed to post season glory: Nebraska, San Jose State and Minnesota.
