ML council approves Four Lakes water purchase

As part of a busy agenda at its Dec. 1 meeting, the Medical Lake City Council agreed to a request made by the Four Lakes Water District to purchase approximately 20,000 gallons of water monthly in order to do a flushing of the two jurisdiction’s emergency intertie line.

The mile-long line runs from Medical Lake’s well at the corner of Craig Road and State Route 902 to Four Lakes’ well further down Craig. City Administrator Doug Ross said water remains in the intertie between uses and becomes stagnant, requiring flushing to maintain a clean flow.

“Eighteen (thousand) to 20,000 (gallons) is not even one household’s use in the summer time here in the city,” Ross said.

The council also approved three interlocal agreements to provide fire and emergency medical services to the state agencies within the city. The Department of Social and Health Services will pay Medical Lake maximum amounts of $32,283.90 for service to Pine Lodge, $80,065.44 at Lakeland Village and $171,493.74 at Eastern State Hospital.

The City Council also approved the second reading of its amended fireworks ordinance, and conducted a public hearing on the city’s $9.52 million 2016 budget, along with second readings of accompanying ordinances setting the property tax levy rate along with setting employee salaries and compensation for the coming year.
