The Cheney Storm FC U14 girls' soccer team has added a league title to go with their tournament success this past season.
The Storm posted a record of 8-0-1 in winning the Washington State Northwest League fall season championship. Cheney outscored its opponents 40-3, and its only blemish came in a 2-2 tie with second-place Spokane Soccer Club's Shadow G01 United Lafferty on Oct. 17.
"The key for us was possession," Storm FC head coach Brian Scott wrote in an email. "We simply did not give other teams much time with the ball. The only way we were scored on was with a rare mistake, or when the opponents could boot it long successfully."
Besides the league title, the Storm U14 girls also won the Pend Oreille Cup Gold Division soccer title in Sandpoint, Idaho, Sept. 11-13 along with the U14 Gold Division at the Wenatchee FC's 2015 Apple Cup Tournament, Oct. 9 – 11.
Overall the Cheney Storm FC U14 team finished ranked 19th in Washington, 565th in Region 4 and 1,728th nationally according to GotSoccer Magazine.
"The girls worked extremely hard to finish the fall season with two tournament championships and winning the league," Scott said. "Actually they went undefeated through all competitions. It is a dedicated group."
