Local newspapers lacked information

Letters to the Editor

In last week’s paper it was reported that nearly one-quarter of voters casting ballots did not vote for either candidate in Cheney School Board’s contested races.

This was presented as some kind of mystery. It is no mystery to me.

Our family recently moved back to Cheney after 25 years of serving in the U.S. Army. I spent several hours searching for the pros and cons of the different issues presented on the ballot. I could find almost no information on the candidates running for the Cheney School Board.

There was not a word said in the local newspapers on the Swenson-Whiteley race and the Browne-Rushing race only generated an article on Rushing’s past indiscretions.

Lacking information, I called several friends who have lived here for a long time and they didn’t have any information to give me either. I was really disappointed!

There are few things more important than the education of our children.

How can we hope to have informed voters if there is no information to be had. I feel that the local newspapers really dropped the ball.

Editor’s note: The Cheney Free Press ran stories on the Browne-Rushing and Swenson-Whiteley Cheney School Board director races in the Oct. 15 issue.
