Medical Lake fell short of its goal to reach the postseason under its first-year head coach Kari Knowlton when the Cardinals split their final pair of Northeast A League matches last week.
Given the possibility of squeezing into the playoffs following a 3-1 win at home over Riverside Oct. 27, that hope ended with a tough 3-2 loss at Chewelah last Thursday.
After splitting the first two game of the match, 25-18 and 18-25 the Cardinals scored wins 25-19 and 25-20 to earn their second league win of the season.
“Our senior night was outstanding, Elani Fitch had 15 kills,” Knowlton said of the senior outside hitter. “It was just an all around amazing game for all the girls.”
The teams split their first four games in the Chewelah match before the Cougars clinched it with a 15-9 win on their home floor.
“Chewelah was a tough loss,” Knowlton said. “Taylor (Fritz) and Elani had amazing games along with Katie Kepner and Claire Dormaier.” Fritz and Fitch each had 10 kills with Fritz adding eight aces. Dormaier had 13 digs.
Medical Lake finished the season with a 2-12 record in the Northeast A League under Knolwton’s guidance and she’s looking forward to where the program is headed.
“I’m really proud of the girls this season and how hard they worked,” Knowlton said. ”We really made a lot of improvements throughout the season and I’m excited to see what this program does the next couple years.”
