For your contemplation: “Do not pray for easy lives: pray to be stronger. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers: pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you yourself shall be a miracle. Every day you shall wonder at yourself, at the richness of life which has come to you by the grace of God.”

United Church of Christ

Pastor David Krueger-Duncan has begun a four-week series that speaks to life when living is a painful experience in our hearts and in our minds. How do we find a way out of the sadness and anger that may come to dominate our thinking and our capacity to cope?

Last Sunday raised the desperate need some feel to stop the pain in their lives. The coming three Sundays will address how to find a way out of living with relentless hurt in our daily lives. Join us for services at the Cheney United Church of Christ (UCC) on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m., for part two of this series.  A coffee hour will follow in the fellowship hall.

UCC joins several other Cheney churches for their annual bazaars this Saturday, Nov 7.  This a wonderful opportunity to do some Christmas shopping while supporting our local churches.

Visit us at North Sixth Street and Oakland from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Many great food and craft items will be for sale. There will be silent auction items to bid on.  Raffle tickets will be sold for three different auction items: a very special locally-made quilt, a holiday special event on Coeur d’Alene Lake, and a beautiful hand decorated gourd. Do not miss the popular hot soup lunch with pie for dessert.

You are welcome to join our social-wellness walking group, which starts at 9 a.m. each Thursday. Everyone is welcome regardless of their walking pace.

Men’s breakfast is scheduled at 7:45 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Marketplace Cheney. The lunch bunch meets every second Thursday.  Bring a dish to share on Nov. 12 at noon in the UCC fellowship hall.

Everyone is welcome to attend any of our services or activities at the Cheney UCC.

United Methodist Church

It’s a bazaar day in Cheney this Saturday, Nov. 7 as four local churches including the United Methodist Church put out baked goods, handcrafted items and much, much more for your shopping pleasure. Join us at UMC, located on the corner of Fourth and G streets from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for gifts, crafts, a silent auction and delicious cookies by the dozen.

Sunday morning worship is at 10 a.m. at UMC. The Rev. Alissa Bertsch-Johnson will present the fourth of a sermon series based on “The Five Marks of a Methodist: The Fruit of a Living Faith.” This week’s topic is “A Methodist prays constantly.”

Remember to support the church’s month long canned food drive during November.

Sunday evening the adult fellowship group will gather at the home of Julie Peck. Turkey will be provided for this early Thanksgiving feast. Just bring a side dish and join us at 6 p.m.

Sunday school classes are at 8:30 and 9 a.m. each Sunday morning. Call the church office at 235-4600 to find out about other study group opportunities.
