Cheney plans road and water work

News briefs

Cheney officials are meeting this week with two contractors on a pair of construction projects to begin soon in the city.

The City Council awarded a $102,222 project to Cameron-Reilly Concrete for Cheney’s Betz/Washington Pedestrian Safety Improvement project. The project will include installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps, pedestrian crossing markings and flashing beacon pedestrian crossing signals at five intersection locations on Betz Road and Washington Street — Silverthorne Lane, Normal Park Road, North Sixth Street, Harvest Bluff and Mike McKeehan Way.

Council also awarded a $124,835 project for water main work to Accelerated Construction and Excavating. The project involves replacing roughly 532 feet of 12-inch PVC water pipe running along Clay Street from the intersection of Clay and Seventh to about 300 feet west of State Route 904.

Both projects should begin within the next week to two weeks, and carry a short 30-day requirement for completion, which should be sometime in mid-November.
